O, Miami is accepting applications for community members who are currently located in South Florida for a paid fellowship opportunity. 

 

About O, Miami

O, Miami celebrates South Florida through the empathy-building power of poetry. We educate and engage communities using a process called Civic Publishing—providing resources for people to identify and express themselves through poetry, and publishing that poetry in public spaces and books. Our work invests in collaborative narratives of place, to create a more equitable future.

 

About the Poetry Coalition 

The Poetry Coalition is a national alliance of nearly thirty organizations dedicated to working

together to promote the value poets bring to our culture and the important contribution poetry

makes in the lives of people of all ages and backgrounds.

 

Fellowship Details 

10 month term: September 2, 2026 - June 30, 2027.

Role: Part time, independent contractor limited to 20 hours weekly 

Rate: $2,000 per month, paid bi-weekly, plus one-time $1500 health and wellness stipend

O, Miami Fellowship work will be hybrid: obligations for in-person engagement including nights and weekends with the flexibility for some remote work.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, beginning Monday, May 25 via Submittable. A candidate will be selected no later than Thursday, August 20.

The fellowship program is designed to develop skills in communication and critical thinking by  immersing fellows in all aspects of O, Miami, including: community engagements, festival  production, publishing (traditional and civic), and education residencies. Responsibilities will include: supporting live and virtual events, contributing to the organization’s development and sustainability, hands-on festival preparation and logistics, and book distribution.

We’re looking for someone with a demonstrated interest in poetry, the arts, and cultural  programming and with a love and knowledge of Miami. Qualified candidates should also have experience and/or interest in events, production, fundraising, education, community building, writing, publishing, and technology. Fluency in Spanish or Creole is a plus. 

Upon completion of the program, fellows will have deepened their relationship and understanding of Miami and expanded their knowledge of South Florida’s literary community.

 

Poetry Coalition Fellow Responsibilities:

● Attending and participating in meetings, including ad-hoc meetings with other Poetry

Coalition fellows and with leaders to foster community, professional development, and

create a peer learning group

● Participating in the Poetry Coalition’s professional development sessions

● Completing evaluations at the end of the fellowship year

 

Additional Fellow Qualifications:

  • Deep interest in meaningful community work
  • Passion for poetry and familiarity with and/or knowledge of contemporary poets
  • Interest in literary arts programming, administration, and management
  • Demonstrated experience in the areas listed above
